"Sure, it was scary moving to the country and raising our own livestock and growing our produce, but it was also the best thing my family has ever done."
Increased awareness about the negative health effects of food from the industrial food chain is itself a big reason why urban farmers like us grow their
own food. When you feed your produce to your family, you’re less likely to douse it in poisons. Growing your own food has more freshness, flavor,
and nutrient retention because it goes through less transportation and processing from your garden to your table!
"It's about frugality; about a close, respectful connection to the land; about using sometimes-limited resources in a thoughtful way."

The Nigerian Dwarf goat is a miniature dairy goat breed of West African ancestry. The original animals were transported from Africa on ships as food for captured carnivores being brought to zoos; the survivors were then maintained in herds at those zoos. Nigerian Dwarf goats are popular as pets and family milkers due to their easy maintenance and small stature. However, because of their high butterfat, they are also used by some dairies to make cheese. They are registered by the American Dairy Goat Association, the American Goat Society, and the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association.
The llama, Apollo is the guardian for our Nigerian dwarf goats and Katahdin Sheep. Llamas are territorial by nature and are instinctively suspicious of canines. Their guanaco ancestors effectively defended their young from wolves, and a number of llamas retain those instincts to pursue and strike at small predators. These llamas can be used to guard sheep, goats, alpacas, mini-horses and mini-donkeys, and occasionally horses or cattle and calves from coyotes and the occasional lone domestic dog.
The Katahdin is a breed of domestic sheep developed in Maine, USA and named after Mount Katahdin - the highest peak in Maine. The breed was developed during in the second half of the 20th century by Michael Piel who, after reading an article in the February 1956 National Geographic, imported selected St. Croix sheep chosen by Dr. Richard Marshall Bond, Director of the Virgin Islands branch of the U.S.D.A., and crossed them with various other breeds including the Suffolk, selecting lambs based on hair coat, meat-type conformation, high fertility, and flocking instinct.

fresh and nutritious fruits and vegetables. fruits and vegetables from our local garden are higher in nutrients than the ones that have traveled several thousands miles to get to your grocery store.
More servings, more benefits. eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day is one of the most important things you can do for your health. research continues to show that many essential nutrients in fresh produce may protect you from cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and they also give you more energy, help reduce weight gain and may even reduce the effects of aging.
hydroponics is proved to have several advantages over soil gardening. the growth rate on a hydroponic plant is 30-50 percent faster than a soil plant, grown under the same conditions. the yield of the plant is also greater.
Durng the winter months we use hydroponics using the n.f.t. (nutrient film technique) system to grow our own greens for the chickens, goats and sheep. Many of our egg customers have commented that our egg yolks are bright orange and flavorful and we contribute that benefit to the supplemental feeding of greens from our garden like romaine, bibb, arugula and kale to name a few. Unfortunately, during the non-growing months we can no longer provide our animals this fresh nutritious feed so after much research we decided on trying hydroponics.
